Via twitter, Shamika Ravi of Brookings India++ has these. Am looking for the paper.

The whole point of controlling the press is to suppress bad news. Negative coverage is a good sign - a sign that fascists haven't yet won.

So the fascists are winning in China?
You hadn't heard that China tightly controls the foreign and domestic press?

And how might it control the foreign press?
By restricting access to information. Reporters can't just wander through China and pole into everything. The internet is censored. Lynch mobs and other misbehavior get a lot of scrutiny in India (or any country with a free press). That doesn't happen in Myanmar, China, or Russia.

Even so, e.g., this story is not getting much play in the world press. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive...
Nor is the plight of the Tibetans - there are plenty of outside-of-China news-sources from insiders in Tibet.
etc.

The number of "cow terror attacks" in 2017 in all of India was of the order of 50. That is just one bad night in Las Vegas. Or a regular two months in Baltimore, MD. And the cow terror attacks are in part because of cow-thefts. If the books are correct, cattle-rustlers in the old US west could be summarily hanged.

Here China is "re-educating" millions of people in an attempt to wipe out their culture. The silence from the Islamic world that is vocal about the least bit of anything in the West is deafening. The left is silent, god knows why, I suppose their favorite country trumps their favorite religion. The right is silent, probably because they look on it approvingly and they wish they could do the same.
Maybe China just does a better job of intimidating the foreign press.
