Tom Lehrer's The Elements

The tune is borrowed from the Major General's patter song in the Gilbert & Sullivan opera 'The Pirates of Penzance'; that particular song has lent itself to a large number of imitations and parodies. The Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas were a major inspiration for Lehrer; he explicitly satirised them in another of his songs ('Clementine').

If you're not already familiar with Lehrer's entire oeuvre, you might want to listen to 'Lobachevsky' as well.
