Quantum of Solace

The new James Bond movie is palatable fare for a Friday evening, when one is brain-damaged after the week of work. However the movie has an annoying style of cinematography during periods of fast action - it is as though a whole lot of frames in the sequence are missing, so what happens is too quick to follow. Since the movie is doing well at the box office, no doubt the movie mogul morons will proceed to emulate this in future Bond movies as well as elsewhere.

I haven't yet seen it (maybe tonight). The San Francisco Chronicle review makes a virtue out of what annoyed you. I have a feeling I will find agreement with you.

On a more tangible level, "Quantum of Solace" benefits from imaginatively conceived action sequences and from a director, Marc Forster, who knows how to film them. Instead of lazily relying on a shaky camera to impart excitement, Forster uses montage. His shots are quick and artfully assembled. Take a look at the opening car chase, which gains all its energy through vigorous cutting. This is a director willing to do the actual work of building a sequence.
